Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah

Mountain adventure, the world's longest zipline and empty beaches

Ras Al Khaimah has the terrain the rest of the country lacks. Jebel Jais rises above 1,900 metres, and the drive up its switchbacks ends at a viewing deck, a mountain restaurant and the longest zipline on record.

Top experiences in Ras Al Khaimah (1)

The adventure cluster on Jebel Jais covers the zipline, a via ferrata, a bike track down the mountain and a sledder ride. Temperatures at the summit run roughly 10 °C cooler than the coast, which makes RAK a genuine option in shoulder season.

Back at sea level, the emirate keeps long, quiet beaches, a mangrove-lined lagoon and the abandoned pearling village of Al Jazirah Al Hamra — the most complete surviving example of a pre-oil coastal settlement in the country.

RAK is 60–75 minutes from Dubai, which makes a long day trip workable, though the mountain rewards an overnight.

Best time to visit

October to April for the coast. The mountain stays comfortable into May and from September, and the summit is pleasant even in early summer mornings.

Getting there

60–75 minutes from Dubai by car via the E311 or E11. RAK International (RKT) handles limited regional flights. A car is close to essential for the mountain.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Dubai to Jebel Jais?
Around two hours to the summit area: roughly 75 minutes to the mountain base plus 30–40 minutes of ascent.
Is Jais Flight safe for beginners?
Yes. No experience is needed, but there are strict weight, height and health limits, and the operator may cancel for wind.
Does it snow on Jebel Jais?
Very rarely. Winter mornings can drop near freezing at the summit, but snow is exceptional rather than annual.
Can I visit Ras Al Khaimah without a car?
Coastal hotels are reachable by taxi or coach, but the mountain effectively requires a car or an organised tour.
