Desert Experiences

Safaris, dune drives, camel treks and overnight camps

The desert safari is the UAE's signature experience, and the gap between a rushed budget trip and a well-run private one is enormous. GO DXB grades every package by camp size, vehicle, dinner standard and how much time you actually spend in the dunes.

Desert Experiences (14)

Broadly there are three families of trip. Morning and sunrise safaris are short, cooler and dune-focused, with no dinner. Evening safaris — budget, standard, premium, VIP and luxury — combine a dune drive with a camp, entertainment and dinner, and differ mainly in camp size, seating and vehicle sharing. Overnight safaris add a tent, dinner, stargazing and a sunrise.

Pickup ranges from 45 minutes before departure for shared vehicles to an exact time slot for private ones. Conservation-reserve camps in Al Marmoom and the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve run stricter environmental rules and smaller groups than the open-desert camps at Lahbab.

Frequently asked questions

Which desert safari should I book?
Standard for a first visit on a budget, premium or VIP for smaller camps and better dinner service, private if you want your own vehicle and timing, and overnight if you want the stars and sunrise.
Is dune bashing safe?
With a licensed operator, yes. Vehicles are checked, drivers are permit-holders and the intensity is adjustable. It is not advised in pregnancy or with back, neck or heart conditions.
What time do evening safaris return?
Typically between 21:00 and 22:00 for shared trips, depending on your hotel's position in the drop-off route. Private trips return earlier.
Can I do a desert safari in summer?
Yes. Summer safaris start later, camps use misting and fans, and prices are noticeably lower. Morning safaris are the more comfortable summer choice.
