Overview

The standard safari is the version most travellers should book. It uses the same shared-vehicle model as the budget package but with a shorter pickup route, a 30-minute dune session rather than 20, and a mid-size camp that seats several hundred fewer guests. Camel riding, sandboarding, henna and shisha are included, dinner is a full buffet with a live grill station, and you can upgrade to a raised table area at the camp. It is the best balance of price, comfort and desert time on our list.

Why visit

It fixes the two things people complain about on budget safaris — too long in the car and too many people at the camp — without moving into private-trip pricing. For most couples and families, it is the right compromise.

Know before you go

  • The dune drive is a genuine 4x4 session, not a gentle transfer. If anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness, sit in the front row and tell the driver — he will smooth the route.
  • Loose, light clothing and closed shoes or sandals you do not mind filling with sand. Bring a layer for after sunset — desert temperatures drop quickly once the light goes. Modest dress is appreciated at camps with live performances.
  • Open to all ages. Dune driving is not recommended during pregnancy or for guests with back, neck, heart or spinal conditions. Children under three sit on a parent's lap during the dune drive and travel free.
  • Dune driving is not suitable for wheelchair users, and camp ground is soft sand. Camps have firm matting paths to the main seating and staff can assist with transfers. Tell us about mobility needs at booking and we will place you in a camp with the shortest walk from the vehicle.
  • Ask for the camel ride as soon as you arrive; the queue builds after 18:00.
  • The raised table upgrade is worth it if you have back trouble — floor cushions get uncomfortable over three hours.
  • Bring a small torch or use your phone; the camp is deliberately dimly lit.
  • Sandboarding works best just before sunset when the sand has cooled.

Best time
November to March is ideal. October and April are comfortable after 16:00. Summer departures shift later and cost noticeably less.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside 24 hours the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are charged in full. Date changes are free up to 24 hours before travel, subject to availability.
