All experiences in Sharjah

Sharjah is where the country keeps its memory. Museums, restored courtyard houses, a working corniche and a heritage quarter sit within a compact centre you can cover on foot, and it is close enough to Dubai for an easy half-day trip.

Sharjah guide

The Heart of Sharjah restoration project has turned several blocks of coral-stone homes into museums, galleries and cafés. Nearby, the Museum of Islamic Civilisation occupies a converted souk under a golden dome, and the Blue Souk still trades in carpets, silver and antiques at prices Dubai rarely matches. Outside the centre, Al Noor Island adds a butterfly house and a landscaped walk, while Mleiha in the eastern desert covers archaeology, fossil dunes and stargazing. Sharjah is a dry emirate — no alcohol is served or sold — and dress standards are more conservative than Dubai's. Both facts shape the atmosphere in a way many visitors end up preferring.
